"Filming" Blog

Hello, Greetings, Howdy, Hi. I hope you're having a good day.

So, You may or may not have noticed the quotation marks around the word filming in the title. Also, you may recall the "Editing" Blog. So yes, I'm talking about how something was supposed to happen, but didn't end up happening. This past weekend, Saturday The 23rd and Sunday the 24th, I was planning on filming then, but that didn't happen.

First of all, Why I didn't film. There were many reasons why I changed my mind about filming over the weekend. The first, My teacher announced to us that she wasn't going to be in class Friday. So if we were to film over the weekend, we had to come and pick up the camera Thursday. That sounds simple, right? Well, Yes. I forgot, and when I remembered it as already too late. Also, My father announced that he was going to be doing house work so having a camera there wouldn't be the best idea. House work as in, my house is a construction site. My father is tearing away walls because they are moldy and there's stuff wrong with them. Here's the second reason, my friends. As you may remember, I planned to have my friends in the video. I still do plan on that happening. A lot of my friends over the course of last week either said they couldn't come that day or they didn't answer. It's unfortunate, I know. Not that it matters, but the ones that did answer me had decent reasons. The friend I was very happy was coming, said he got grounded and he couldn't go. He didn't say why, but here we are.

Second, What I did instead. You can imagine, I had to do something because I wasn't filming. I may joke saying that I sit and stare at the wall all day everyday, but I don't do that all day. Maybe a good 15 minutes or so. Anyway, Back to what I did instead. Starting with a nice, interesting opening. So, my mother is tall. And most of the time, with great height, comes big feet. She has size 10 or 10 1/2 shoe. We went on a journey, A hunt to find my mother shoes. We first went to a shopping plaza thing to see if they had shoes for her in the stores. We first went into a store that I don't remember the name of. After we left that store with no luck, we went into a DSW (I think that's what it's called)store. There was no luck there either, but we looked in the clearance section with a sliver of hope left, and found some shiny blue boots that were Two Hundred Dollars. Clearance? I think not. Anyway, we left that plaza and we drove to some mall. That mall has at least 10 shoe stores. You want to guess how many pairs of shoes that my mother liked that were her size? None. No pairs at all. And upside though, She found exercise clothing, and that was one of two purchases. The other purchase was those baked pretzel things. Those were nice. Later that day, We went to my mothers friend house for dinner. Her friend was having a Thanksgiving themed dinner party thing so we went. Well, Not willingly. Long story short, I got to play with a small child, I got to pet a cat, and I got to talk to some people I've never talked to before on discord, what a good time. That was just Saturday. Sunday, However wasn't as eventful. My father took my brothers to home depot or something and my mother left for the morning. I was rudely awakened by pounding and sawing from the back of our house. You may or may not be thinking, "what rats," and you're right. So I woke up and did my daily staring at the wall for 15 minutes ritual. Then I went out, and sat on the couch. Something I forgot to mention that I did Saturday, I started to re-watch Victorious. So far, I'm only on the 5th or 6th episode, but so far I've learned that Tori is extremely dramatic, and no one asked for that sis. Anyway, Sunday. I didn't do much. I started with my morning rituals (staring at the wall, etc) and went from there. To make it brief, I played this game called Krunker and talked to people on discord. I don't really know how to describe the game besides saying, Imagine the games minecraft, roblox, and call of duty mixed into one ugly game. That's what Krunker is. I played that for almost 6 hours hile talking to some people on discord. Self control? We don't know her.

So in conclusion, That's what I did instead of filming this weekend. I hope you were entertained. I have to film this weekend and a lot of the people that said they couldn't come last weekend said they could this weekend so that's fun. I hope this works out.

Anyway, That's a wrap. Have a good day.

Storyboard Blog

Hello. I hope you're having a good day.

So, you may or may not be able to tell from the title, it's storyboard time. For this project, we had to draw 12 boxes as a way of saying what we were doing. So here are the two things:

I apologize if the photo looks funky, I had to crop it so it didn't have my name in the thing.
So first, I'm going to explain exactly what's going on. Okay, so the song I chose is a sad song. So you'd think, sad song=sad times. Well, You're right. I listened to this song after I chose it for this assignment and thought to myself, "what is a sad thing that I can show on camera?" because I can't really show what anxiety feels like on camera. So, a sad time in my life is continuing doing school without my really really good friends with me. So this storyboard is basically showing what we did as a group in middle school when stuff was still looking up for all of us. I'm aware it says stuff about me not being sure about who's coming (the "whoever shows up") because as of right now, I don't know. Hopefully I get an answer by Friday. Anyway, back to the topic of sad things. The relevance of the uno cards, there were maybe 13 people total in our group. Whenever we'd sit together in the morning before school or at lunch we'd play uno. It was our favorite game to play besides hangman. Off topic, I know. To make matters short, this video is a small "montage" of what us buddies did on a day to day basis. It's weird and it makes no sense but here we are.

**I'm also aware that there's probably things missing, and that the drawn pictures look like utter garbage. I wanted to spend more time figuring everything out then drawing the pictures. Also, there's probably things that are going to be changed for various reasons.** Okay, cool. So the first box is a drawing of me sitting on my bed. It's supposed to be sort of a I wake up or something, and I have the flashbacks of hanging out with my friends. The next scene would be my friend(s) standing in the doorway. After that, there's the uno montage. As of right now, I don''t know how that's going to work out, but here we are. There's 3 boxes having to do with playing uno, it's going to be very dramatic. Then there's us going outside(a rare moment) But us going outside might change depending on the weather, us deciding against going, and stuff like that. Then we're seen going inside to play coolmath, then there's the very unnecessary couple second scene of us standing over the camera. Then finally, the scene where I lay back down to show that this horrid video is over.

In all, There's pan(s), long shot(s), an establishing shot, full shot(s), two shot(s), jump cut(s), tilt(s), close up(s), zoom(s), point of view(s), medium shot(s), medium full shot(s), and over the shoulder(s). What a good time. Anyway, I have kind of high hopes for this video because not only am I doing classwork, I get to hang out with really cool people that I haven't seen in a while. But everything has to have a bad thing you know is gonna happen, right? Well, the friends that I've asked to be in this video aren't the most mature people. Even though this video is going to be based around good times, that doesn't mean we have to be smiling and laughing at each other. Because who would willingly watch a couple teenagers giggling into a camera for a minute and fifteen seconds? No one, that's who. Yeah. Another problem, since we're doing certain things in the video, like playing uno, going to the park, and playing a computer game, there's times where we're probably going to get caught in that and spend way more time than intended doing one thing. I'm sorry if this whole thing looks messy and disorganized, I know it's a lot to comprehend. Then again, I can't say "oh don't worry, I promise this will be the best thing you've ever seen." because It's not going to be. I can't make a promise I can't keep. Thank you for your time.

I hope you have a good day, until next time.

Planning Blog

Hello, I hope you're having a good day.

Glad to start this treacherous process again. Okay, fun. To start off, We're doing the location. So, the location is going to be at my house, park near my house, and the weird sidewalk that leads to the park. I chose these because it's simple, while still being a little unique, for lack of a better term. This video is going to be based around flashbacks so it's a good thing to walk places and be weird. If there is an unexpected incidence, such as rain, the sun expanding, a hurricane, you know the usual, we're just going to film inside. I don't want to risk damaging equipment by being risky. I also have to remember to call the rulers of the park to make sure it's okay for us to film there. But I don't know if they have a phone number, I'll find it all out. Health and safety. Health and safety is obviously a big thing. You know, we need to be alive and well in order to finish the filming and editing processes. For this, we will make sure to have common sense and be more alert. Considering we're walking places instead of driving, we're gonna do the small children thing of excessively looking up and down the road, waiting for a couple seconds after the stop light turns red so no one hits us while using the cross walk, etc.

Now, Props. There's no plans to include props. Like, there's no things we want/need to add. We're not renting guitars or anything over the top like that. The only props we'd use would be stuff around my house. Like my dogs (I don't know if they would be considered props), maybe a rainbow thing of some sort, and stuff like that. Costumes. There's no plan for costumes either. we're not gonna be dressed up as vampires or big chickens. Although, I might buy one of those weird onesie things from Walmart, but I don't know yet. But that would be funny, two or more teenagers walking around your neighborhood with a camera wearing animal onesies. That's fun. Other than that, the apparel that's going to be worn is probably just going to be the usual stuff, jeans, a t-shirt, a jacket, and maybe something else.

And now, The schedule. Today, November 18th 2019, we're assigned to start the Planning and Storyboard blogs/processes. We were told to divide the work among our group members, but obviously, I can't do that because I'm working alone. Tomorrow, Nov. 19th, Is a white day. Wednesday, Nov. 20th, we're continuing and finishing up the two blogs. Thursday, Nov. 21, Is when the Planning and Storyboard blogs are due. Friday, Nov. 22nd, Is a white day and the day I have to take some test. Over the weekend, Saturday Nov. 23rd, and Sunday Nov. 24th, I plan to film with whichever friend decides to text me back. Monday, Nov. 25th, a filming blog is due. Another filming blog is also due Monday, Dec. 2nd. Monday, Dec. 9th, The actual whole edited and filmed music video is due. Then the CCR is due to the class gmail at Wednesday, Dec. 11th. A good time, a fun time.

Well, that's it for now. I hope you have a good day.

Introduction/Research For the music video

Hello, Welcome. I hope you're having a good day.

Today, November 14th, marks the first day of the new project. We're going from the commercial to a music video. A quick summary of the commercial, It was pretty good. I filmed, edited and wrote about every thing myself, which was a nice challenge. You know, we got through it. I really hope this process will go better than the process of the commercial. I'm going into this project with two ideas and zero motivation.

The song I'm using for this project, is The Thrash Particle by Modern Baseball. Honestly, just choosing the song was a big challenge. I had maybe two songs in my head, then every couple minutes I'd say to myself, but that song would work too.. Pure chaos, I know. I picked this song because one, it's my favorite Modern Baseball songs, and two, because I felt it would be easier to film then the other song options I had. I'm quote, "good at looking sad" so that's a plus. Modern Baseball's genre includes many things, such as Emo, Indie rock, Pop punk, and Folk rock. A lot of their songs talk about falling in and out of love, friends, and mental health. Now to name the genre conventions. 1. Costumes in these genres include almost any clothing you could wear, as obvious as it sounds. In Modern Baseball music videos, the people wear just normal clothing, or that one where he is dressed up as a vampire. Other bands in those genres do this too, Such as Mom jeans (iconic), Sorority Noise, and The Front Bottoms. 2. Lighting in these genres usually are darker than other videos. Honestly, I can only guess why, Probably so that their songs seem more sad or dramatic than it actually is. 3. Acting, In this genre, the acting usually consists of awkward dancing, lip syncing(?), being weird with friends, or a live performance of the song. 4.Makeup. Makeup depends on the costume, yes, but there are other reasons why you would use makeup. Such as, covering up things on the face (zits, scars, etc), To make yourself look younger, or if you're like Brendan Lukens, dress up as a vampire and wear black lipstick for it. 5. Props. Props in this genre, could include things like alcohol, Musical instruments, (guitars, drums, microphones, etc), Party games, etc. 6.Setting. Setting can go with acting as well. in this genre, the setting is usually based inside a house, at a venue, or in a place like a backyard or a park.

There are many camera angles, shots, and movements used in music videos of this genre. First, The most common camera angles are close ups, and extreme close ups. These are used to show the person whose singing's lips moving. The most common shots in music videos of this genre are, long shots, and mid shots. A long shot to show whoever wherever they are, whether the place is relevant or not to the song. A mid shot, to show the person and the back round, but could also be used to show the person lip syncing. Common Movements are Dolly's, And Pans. Dollys are in this genre to smoothly/gradually go from showing someone's face to their body and the thongs around them. Pans are used to do almost the same, but usually they use pans to show going back or forward in time, or something else happening in another room. Think of it, in many music videos for example, they show the band, then they use the pan movement to show another room, maybe of a group of people dancing/a party or a scene where someone just woke up. Common sounds in this genre would include, (obviously) the song, you know, the guitars, drums, the vocalist.

In this music video, I honestly have almost no idea of what to do. I have one, but if I can't have people come and act in the video, then this is going to be interesting, but not in a good way. It's either, a friend of mine comes over and we film, I film by myself, or i walk around with a camera and the video mean nothing to the song.

That was a long one, sorry not sorry, I guess. Have a good day.

Editing blog

Hello welcome, I hope you're having a good day.

So today we actually started editing our commercials. So far it hasn't been as difficult as I thought it was going to be, then again all I've done at the current time of 10:19 is import the footage, and get it into the correct places. What I didn't realize earlier, was that I shot way more footage than I thought I did. There was footage of me reaching around the camera when i was still trying to figure the camera out, there was also 2-3 to takes for two of the scenes so that was fun to look through. An upside is that my hair looked really nice so that's good. A downside, (I guess?) was that I looked extremely awkward in every second of this commercial. I looked more awkward than I do in my day to day life. There were also so many unnecessary head and hand movements, heck. That stuff happens all the time but watching it back and seeing it from another point of view is so, ew. Ew is the only way I can think of describing it.

Obviously, time has passed since I said it was 10:19. I'm sitting in pe and I'm gonna reflect on what I did the rest of that class. I'm almost done with all of the editing. I imported the footage, and placed it in the right places, and, you know, edited it. Although it went pretty smoothly, a crisis always occurres. Dun dun dun. After I cut the footage to the best of my ability, it was 24.28 seconds long. That means it doesn't meet the 25 second minimum. I was, shook, for lack of a better term. This was a tragedy indeed. What was I supposed to do? Turn in the 24.28 second commercial? Unacceptable. Because I am a magician, I can't tell you what I did, but I can tell you that, using magic, I made that 24.28 into a 25.03 I believe.

So, in conclusion, I'm almost done with the editing. I have to find and add music or something to put at the end. I also have to put titles. Why? Because you can't hear what I'm saying. Wind and the fact that I can't talk at a normal volume were both contributing factors to this second crisis. I want to put the titiles for the very low volume words, and an anti vaping small message thing at the end. So I have to come up with a comedic comment having to do with anti-vaping. Fun.

Well, that's it. Goodbye.
